Miami’s 34th annual Swim Week 2016-2017 was commemorated in early June with a launch party at Klima Restaurant; a chic Catalan gourmet eatery and lounge in the heart of South Beach. Celebrants imbibing aged Rum Barcelo were feted with seasonal tasty tapas from the authentic kitchen of Chef Pablo, who looks outward toward the Mediterranean and European seacoasts rather than inward to Iberia.
Klima’s vast soothing space was elbow to elbow with chic European and South American transplants. The place sub’s as a master class on how to court both the old and new, imbued with the air of authority contributed by Spaniards Pablo Fernández-Valdés and Yago Giner of the award-winning Barcelona based Grupo Tragaluz. Miami Herald Food Critic, Victoria Pesce Elliott describes Klima as a place of “effortless perfection” with the look of “a rich cousin’s Barcelona apartment” with “museum-worthy artwork” on display.

Anticipation for the fast approaching SWIM WEEK was palatable. Set to un spool July 14-18, Swim Week, the city wide confab’s linchpin is the Florida Swimwear Associations Trade show at the Miami Beach Convention Center and the allure of countless pop up events and runway shows of sexy to suitable suits for swimming, sublime resort and sport collections.
Under the watchful eye of Alex Sardo, the staff was genuinely attentive. A brand new Nikon went missing and within minutes it was found by an attentive bartender and held for safe keeping. If there were a Michelin Star for service, Klima would be at the head of the line to win the award for “nicest restaurant in Miami Beach”.
